![]() Over a decade ago when I first started hosting Spectral Evidence as part of the Festival of the Dead in Salem Massachusetts, I would ask the audience: "Who believes the Ouija Board is Evil?" That first year approximately 80 percent of the audience raised their hand. Through the years it has dramatically dropped to about 40 percent. What is the driving force behind those who believe it is evil? Is it Hollywood's portrayal of it in movies like Witch Board, the Exorcist, and more recently Ouija? Is it because of some traumatic experience they had as teenagers, when they used it with their friends? Or is it because of their religious beliefs? Whatever it is they are quite adamant about it. When pressed for a reason the number one answer is: "You don't know what will come through." If this is true, then most of the methods we use in paranormal investigating are just as dangerous. Whether it is EVP's, Ghost Boxes, K-2 meters, loose flashlights, or even asking for a sign from a spirit, they all fall into that same category. You are inviting spirit to come through. You may not agree with me and many don't but I will tell you like I tell all of the people I work with: "If you are not comfortable in doing something, then DON'T DO IT!" Whether in paranormal investigating or life in general, Trust you heart! It is seldom wrong! And that is just my thoughts... Thanks for listening!

I suppose, like most other things when working with paranormal things, for me it's the fear factor. Fear of the unknown.

I think it has been so ingrained in our culture that Ouija boards are evil. Most people have heard from a friend of a friend of a friend about someone who had a terrifying experience while playing on one. Whether that's true or not, it gets in your subconscious. For me personally, the argument that it's the same thing as using any other forms of communication that aren't considered "dangerous" (K-2 meters, automatic writing..etc) makes perfect sense. Would I have a spirit board in my house? I'd be very hesitant simply because of how it's generally perceived and a subconscious fear of "what if" ? . It makes no sense to me either. :)
